Gravitational Waves in Strong Gravitational Fields

  • Chapter
Oscillations and Waves

Part of the book series: Texts and Monographs in Physics ((TMP))

Abstract

Gravitational fields cannot propagate instantaneously. The problem of detecting gravitational waves experimentally is an unsolved fundamental problem of modern experimental physics. The solution of this problem requires corresponding instrumentation with greater accuracy (the measured effect must exceed the level of the errors in the measurements), as well as the search for an experimental arrangement in which the expected effect is most apparent for the existing level of accuracy of the experimental facilities.
