Zusammenfassung

Die Familienforschung im Bereich der sog. „Familientheorie der Schizophrenie“ist in den letzten 40 Jahren durch ein Auf und Ab gekennzeichnet. Die anfängliche Euphorie im Zusammenhang mit den für die Ätiopathogenese der schizophrenen Erkrankungen als spezifisch angenommenen Konzepten der Kommunikationsstörungen, u.a. der Doppelbindungstheorie (Bateson et al. 1956), konnte durch die nachfolgenden empirischen Untersuchungen nicht untermauert werden (Berger 1978). Dies führte zu einem starken Rückgang des Interesses in diesem Bereich. Die empirische Familienforschung gewann erst wieder an Respekt, als es insbesondere durch die Arbeit von Gurman u. Kniskern (1978, 1981, 1986) gelang, die Effektivität der Familientherapie durch das Zusammentragen der Ergebnisse aus vielen Outcome-Untersuchungen nachzuweisen.
