Trion Formation in Resonant Photoemission in a Simple Model of Insulators

Abstract

Three-body correlation effects on resonant photoemission spectra are studied with a simple two-band Hubbard model, where a valence band is completely occupied with an empty conduction band. The three-body problem concerned in one conduction electron and two valence holes in the final state of resonant photoemission is solved to calculate the spectra for from weak interactions to strong interactions between particles. The formation of trion (three-particle bound-state) is discussed as an origin of sharp satellite peak coexisting with an Auger peak above the core-level photothreshold.

  13. A quasi-trion may exist even for Uvc = 1 eV. However its intensity is so small to be observed as a peak or a shoulder in spectra.
