Abstract

Professor Kubo in his introductory remarks told us that the Fermi-sea, once thought of as calm as the pacific ocean, has been revealed following Kondo’s work of the 1960’s to be actually a dangerous sea. I might add that it has also very seductive and mysterious waters. Several generations of theorists have been drawn to it and many have drowned. It is in fact not possible to be a theoretical physicist without concerning oneself with it and the infrared divergences it presents. The heavy Fermion phenomena, on which I have worked for several years is one of the many diverse problems where the physics discovered by Professor Kondo plays an essential role.
