Abstract

The cardiovascular system is regulated by different control principles including local metabolic control at tissue levels and the overall neural and humoral regulation. It remains a major concern as to whether these complicated mechanisms remain intact or get affected by various diseases and/or anesthetic drugs in the perioperative period. The present paper briefly reviews the above mentioned control mechanisms and focuses on some clinically relevant disturbances of these regulatory circuits as result of diseases or pharmacological manipulations.
