Abstract
An important goal of positron emission tomography (PET) is to measure, in vivo and in absolute units, the tissue concentration of a positron-emitting radiopharmaceutical. Over the past few years, such measurements have been made in a wide variety of PET studies using positron cameras constructed of rings of detectors of bismuth germanate or cesium fluoride crystals. Large area detectors, such as those based on the multiwire chamber, have yet to demonstrate such a capability in a clinical research environment. This paper highlights some of the problems of image quantitation that are encountered with the High Density Avalanche Chamber (HIDAC) positron camera.
