Abstract
In the past three decades there have been many reports dealing with different radio-therapeutic approaches, in combination with surgery, intended to improve the survival rates of patients with potentially curable rectal carcinoma. However, no clear-cut data have yet been presented in this field of clinical investigation, especially with respect to whether pre- or postoperative radiation should be applied and which kind of fractionation or dosage should be given.
