Abstract

In some cases astronomers wish to transform a large intensity range into a small density range on a photographic plate. Therefore the slope of the characteristic curve must be lowered. This lowering gives the following advantages:

  1. 1.

Better visibility of details in the range of high incident intensities.

  2. 2.

Avoidance of some problems in measuring engines (saturation, strong lamps, etc.).

  3. 3.

Lowering of the influence of light diffusion.
