Abstract
At Sternwarte Babelsberg a new automated microdensitometer for high precision scanning of astronomical photographic plates (Astronomisches Auswertegerät = ASAG) is under construction. An image processing program package to supplement this equipment was developed and is now in operation. The program package is designed to run on a separate computer not connected directly with the densitometer, and therefore it was designed to be as portable as possible in order to run on a large variety of different computers. A second aim for the design was flexibility. The main properties of the package to meet portability and flexibility are summarized in Sect. II.
