Abstract

All clinicians are familiar with palpation of the anterior fontanelle. Although frequently used, this subjective method of estimating intracranial pressure (ICP) is considered unreliable. Various techniques have been proposed to measure ICP in infants more accurately (1, 8). Invariably the force used by the investigator to apply the transducer to the fontanelle interferes with recording of ICP.
