Abstract
After a brief historical review, this chapter will discuss the experimental, technical, and clinical basis of intravascular occlusion. The experience of G. Debrun with a series of 21 giant aneurysms managed by the intravascular approach, with or without other neurosurgical procedures, will be presented, followed by a discussion of the present role of this rapidly developing method in the treatment of giant aneurysms.
