Abstract

The EEG changes caused by different barbiturates with different half-lives are broadly similar; their EEG characteristics are demonstrated in this section using thiopental as an example. The dosages calculated by body weight which are in use today generally lead to superficial anesthesia, although lowered physical condition can cause very deep stages of anethesia for short periods of time.
