Abstract

Of 450 species, including the edible common onion, chive, garlic and other succulent vegetables like leek, shallot and racombole, mst is known only in A. ascalonicum, A. cepa, A. fistulosum, A. longicuspis, A. porrum, A. sativum and A. schoenoprasum (Tables 31.3 to 31.5). However, it is extensively investigated and utilized in the most commonly cultivated and consumed onion, the A. cepa. In others, the precise gene control is not known. Since most of these arose as spontaneous mutants, they are placed under g-mst unless otherwise stated.
