A New Quantum Effect in the Transverse Magnetoresistance of Two-Dimensional Conductors with a Narrow Constriction in the Conducting Channel

Abstract

A new type of quantum steps has been observed in the transverse magnetoresistance of a two-dimensional conductor, having a narrow constriction in the width of the conducting channel. The quantized resistance values are integer multiples of h/(2nwe2), where nw is related to the number of quanta h/(2eB) of magnetic flux through the constriction.
