Abstract
Traditional concerns over the reliability of computer-based systems have focussed on the real-time area where computers directly interact with a physical system, such as flight management. Increasingly, as commercial business systems acquire a more central role in the strategy and management of business operations, the consequences of failure of such systems become potentially more destructive.
