Zusammenfassung

Fragen der Definition (Alkoholabhängigkeit vs. Alkoholmißbrauch), des „natürlichen Verlaufs“ des Alkoholismus und der verschiedenen therapeutischen Variablen werden behandelt, ferner werden methodische Probleme besprochen: Reliabilität und Validität, „Regression zur Mitte“, prospektive Planung unter Einbeziehung mehrerer „Zeitfenster“, Selektion, Kontrollgruppe, Verlaufskriterien, Patientenauffindung und Beiziehung sonstiger Unterlagen. Es werden 9 Arbeiten aus Europa dargestellt, die einen katamnestischen Zeitraum von mindestens 4 Jahren umfassen. Folgende Schlußfolgerungen werden gezogen: Kleine Rückfälle bei sonst guter Remission sind häufig. Sie treten oft erst nach Jahren auf. Etwa 50–66% der Alkoholiker werden nach längerer Zeit wieder so rückfällig, daß Probleme entstehen. Im Alter kommt es bei früheren Alkoholikern häufig zu einer Verminderung des Alkoholkonsums.
