RDBM — Software Considerations and Performance Evaluation

  • Conference paper
Database Machines

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NATO ASI F,volume 24))

Abstract

The core of the RDBM software is the control software running on the control processor (DABS). It has been implemented as a system of cooperating parallel processes which use a common pool of subroutines. The control software is organized in 3 layers: communication layer, translation layer, and execution layer .

The necessity and usefulness of a continuous performance modeling and evaluating activity during the whole planning and construction period became clear only in the later phase of the project. Thus performance modeling and evaluation reduce mainly to ‘a posteriori’ activities planned for a continuation of the RDBM project.
