Composite Frontal Bone Flap for Bony Reconstruction in Treacher Collins Syndrome and Hemifacial Microsomia

In the last two decades of the nineteenth century, composite frontal bone flaps were clinically used for nasal reconstruction by Israël and Müller [1–3]. Mandibular reconstruction by means of a composite frontal flap of bone, periosteum, and skin was performed by Bardenheuer [4] in the same period. The use of the temporal muscle as carrier for the underlying bone in orbital reconstruction was described much later by Conley [5].
