Abstract
A neonatal transport system is an outreach modality which brings neonatal intensive care facilities to the compromised neonate at a community hospital, and facilitates nonhazardous transport to a referral centre [1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11]. Adequate stabilization of the neonate prior to, and maintenance during transport leads to a reduction in mortality and morbidity [1, 3]. The operation of such a transport service is illustrated by the experience of the transport team of the Hospital for Sick Children (HSC) in Toronto. HSC is the major neonatal tertiary referral centre for East Central Ontario and beyond. Services are provided for an area with 65000 births annually.
