Abstract
PHOENICS is applied to the problem of formation of frazil ice in a river. The accumulation of frazil ice into larger, more buoyant aggregates (grease ice) and formation of anchor ice on the river bottom is treated in a preliminary way. The simulations seem to yield realistic results, and the model should be a good starting-point for further studies.
