Reliable Design and Operation of the ECC System for a Heavy Water Moderated Nuclear Research Reactor

Abstract

Safety and reliability requirements of nuclear reactors are of considerable importance. In this paper, the reliable design and operation of the Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) for a heavy water cooled research reactor in the nuclear research center of Vinca (Yugoslavia) is discussed. An investigation was done for a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) with special reference to inlet and outlet pipes of the prime coolant loops.
