Summary

The direct coupling of the viscous and inviscid flows (Strong Interaction) and the boundary layer correction (Weak Interaction) procedures are described, and a comparison of the results of the two procedures is made. Based on the boundary layer integral method, the Strong Interaction formulation that renders a continuous velocity decrease throughout the shock wave region seems to properly simulate the decelerating flow of the interaction phenomenon. The Weak Interaction procedure, on the other hand, always converges to an abrupt pressure rise at the shock, which discounts the smearing effect due to viscosity.
