Abstract
Thermoacoustics deals with the acoustics of flows in which the variation of entropy plays a significant role. We derive an integral representation for the sound field which enables us to review the literature on thermoacoustic sources within a unified framework. The noise generated by a selection of thermoacoustic sources, including unsteady combustion, heat and mass transfer, and turbulent two-phase flows, is discussed.
