Abstract

LEED can yield valuable information concerning chemical reactions that take place at surfaces. The crystallographic data obtained by analyzing LEED intensities (Chaps. 7 and 12) provide an important, although indirect, means of access to such information. By identifying the structure of relatively stable atomic and especially molecular species adsorbed on crystalline substrates, one may infer the primary reaction mechanisms and pathways.
