Abstract
Thus far in this book, we have sketched the developments in the use of LEED up to the present. Despite the evolution that has occurred over the years, the technique of LEED retains many untapped potentials. Some applications have had to await a sufficient experimental or theoretical development of the technique, e.g. the case of the study of less stable and more complex surface structures. Other applications of LEED have not yet received the attention they deserve, even though the technique can already be applied to them. For example, oxides, magnetic materials, alloys, disordered structures, and phase transitions present many unanswered questions that can be studied with the present state of the art.
