Abstract

Recent work on optical waveguides has revealed the presence of novel types of leaky waves along thin-film layers bounded by two open (substrate and cover) regions. The new field varieties include waves that radiate selectively into only one of the two open regions[1] and waves having backward propagation characteristics[2]. However, although a few such novel leaky waves have been identified analytically, the actual excitation of these waves by realistic sources has not yet been reported.
