Abstract

As it can be shown that SEW are always p-polarized, we consider only this type of wave. Let ε 0 and ε s be the dielectric functions of the two media in contact, and the z-direction be normal to the interface (plane z = 0). The sagittal plane is the plane xoz. From MAXWELL’S equations, it follows that the component of the wave-vector along the interface (kz) is the same in both media. Let \( {q_i} = {\left( {k_z^2\, - {E_i}{W^2}/{C^2}} \right)^{1/2}} \) be the component of the wave-vector along the normal to the interface (i=0,s).
