Abstract
Physisorption kinetics must be based on kinetic equations that reflect the microscopic dynamics imposed by the Hamiltonian (2.176) and that take advan-tage of the statistical properties of the coupled gas-solid system. Theories have been worked out that start from the master equation, the Fokker-Planck equation, the Kramers equation, or the Langevin equation. In this and the next four chapters we will concentrate on the master equation approach. In Chap. 8 we will then derive the simpler kinetic equations from the master equation and discuss the work based on them.
