Rayleigh-Wave Theory and Application

Part of the book series: Springer Series on Wave Phenomena ((SSWAV,volume 2))

Abstract

It is a great pleasure to speak on the applications of Rayleigh waves to nondestructive testing. This conference attests to the breadth and scope of the contributions Lord Rayleigh’s discovery of surface waves has made to so many acoustic applications. Yet, the discovery of Rayleigh waves is only one small part of his many theories which have been fundamental to the development of modern acoustical and optical techniques. We can only marvel at his immense output.
