Abstract
Celluar production is one of the main applications of Group Technology concepts, espicially in the area of parts manufacturing. Instead of moving batches in stages from department to department in a workshop parts families are manufactured in single stages by production cells. The biggest automotive company in Egypt sponsered a research project with the target of designing a modernized celluar manufacturingsystem in the parts manufacturing shop. This paper describes how the project was carried out and the developed procedure of designing the production cells. Finally the results of the project, difficulties met and a conclusion is given.
