Abstract

Considerable progress has been made in the theoretical understanding of charge exchange processes which atoms scattered from surfaces may undergo [1]. Theoretical efforts have concentrated primarily on describing the interaction of a ground state atom with substrates. The existence of excited states of the scattered atom is usually neglected in such treatments.
