Abstract
A question of fundamental importance in the biology of human lung cancer is whether the hormones produced by lung tumours exert a positive influence on the growth of the tumour through an autocrine function or whether hormone production simply reflects a derepression of genetic material consequent to dedifferentiation. The former possibility would require the presence of hormone receptors on tumour cell membranes.
