Specification of Interfaces: A Case Study of Data Exchange Languages

Book cover Product Data Interfaces in CAD/CAM Applications

Part of the book series: Symbolic Computation ((1276))

Abstract

There is a growing interest in the formal treatment of interfaces at the application level. The common property of all kinds of interfaces seems to be the exchange of data (i.e. some sort of representation of information), and as may be seen almost everywhere in the software business, the problems do not usually result from the syntactical aspects: the more serious problems result from the semantics of the data, when they are subjected to further automatic treatment.
