Summary
The three parameter Weibull distribution is used as a basis for probabilistic design with brittle materials. Beam fracture data is analysed by a new technique to obtain the characteristic Weibull parameters which are then used in conjunction with the theory of independent action to predict failure in a multiaxial stress state.
