Abstract
One should not underestimate the importance of condensed phase reaction dynamics on ultrafast timescales, even when one’s primary interest is in reactions and synthetic schemes that occur in much slower times. In the primordial phases of a chemical reaction, the reaction must usually “make a choice” among a number of possible pathways. The choice favors pathways having the fastest reaction rates, and this choice determines overall product yields.
