Abstract

It is widely agreed that simulation models should be closely linked to data analyses. Indeed, a justifiable criticism of the software design described in Chap. 5 would be that its underlying mathematical models need to be tested further in the analysis of data. Accordingly, the purpose of this chapter is to give an account of some research directed toward providing firm links between data analyses and the construction and implementation of computer simulation models. Problems arising in evaluating and measuring the impact of family planning programs on fertility provided the substantive motivation for the research reported in this chapter.
