Two-Frequency Technique for Multiple-Photon Dissociation and Laser Isotope Separation

  • Chapter
Book cover Multiple-Photon Excitation and Dissociation of Polyatomic Molecules

Part of the book series: Topics in Current Physics ((TCPHY,volume 35))

Abstract

In this chapter the improvement of selectivity in laser isotope separation by the technique of employing one infrared laser to provide selective excitation and a second to provide the energy required for dissociation is reviewed and illustrated. Since this technique is especially useful for molecules that contain heavy elements and for which the isotopic shift of vibrational frequencies is therefore small (often of the order of 1 cm−1), special emphasis is placed on results obtained with the molecule 0s04.
