The Molecular Surface Science of Heterogeneous Catalysis: History and Perspective

Abstract

It is a rare occasion that one is invited to prepare a personal and historical review and discussion of one’s research. I am grateful for this opportunity and shall attempt to describe how I became involved with modern surface science and how it was employed in my laboratory for studies of the chemistry of surfaces and heterogeneous catalysis. Out of this research came new approaches that have impact on catalysis science and technology.
