Zusammenfassung
Ein bis zwei Prozent aller menschlichen Tumoren entstehen im Zentralnervensystem. Die Häufigkeit ist 1 auf 15000 bis 25000 Einwohner pro Jahr (ZüLCH U. MENNEL 1978). Im Kindesalter sind Hirntumoren die zweithäufigsten malignen Neubildungen nach der Leukämie. Etwa 1% aller Todesfälle verursachen Hirntumoren, das sind rund 3% aller Todesfälle an malignen Tumoren (RUSSELL U. RUBINSTEIN 1977). Die geographische Verteilung von Hirntumoren in den Ämtern Dänemarks und den Bundesstaaten der USA wurde von KURTZKE (1969) untersucht. Er findet keine Häufigkeitsunterschiede, die auf Umwelteinflüsse zurückzuführen wären. Danach ergibt sich kein Hinweis auf die Entstehung von Hirntumoren durch exogene Noxen. Auch viele andere Untersucher können keine echten Zusammenhänge zwischen äußeren Faktoren (z.B. Entbindung durch Zange, Toxoplasmose, Impfungen) und Hirntumoren feststellen (GOLDHAHN U. GOLDHAHN 1978). In experimentellen Hirntumormodellen können durch intrazerebrale Injektionen von Viren oder Chemikalien dagegen Hirntumoren induziert werden. Dies gelingt auch durch transplazentare, parenterale, orale oder sogar örtliche Exposition gegenüber chemischen Karzinogenen (SWENBERG 1977).
