Abstract

The transport properties of large wave vector near zone boundary transverse acoustic phonons in solids has attracted a good deal of experimental attention over the last few years.[1] In order to explain the long energy relaxation times for phonons of energy ħω>kT, LAX, HU and NARAYANAMURTI[2] showed that irrespective of crystal anharmonicity, anisotropy and symmetry a phonon of a given phase velocity cannot decay into phonons of higher phase velocity. The theorem applies to both N and U processes.
