Zusammenfassung
Im Laufe von Planung, Durchführung und Auswertung einer randomisierten klinischen Studie müssen Entscheidungen getroffen werden, welche den Fortgang des Vorhabens beeinflussen und steuern. Sie treten bereits bei der Bildung einer Studiengruppe und der Festlegung eines Studienprotokolls auf und enden oft erst mit der Publikation der Ergebnisse oder der Entscheidung über ein nachfolgendes Studienvorhaben. Erstreckt sich der Patientenzugang einer Studie über einen beträchtlichen Zeitraum, so stellt sich oft die Frage, ob die Studie vorzeitig — d.h. vor Erreichen der für erforderlich gehaltenen Anzahl von Patienten — beendet werden kann oder muß.
