Test of Two-Phase Mass Flow Rate Instrumentation in Transient Steam-Water Flow

Measuring Techniques in Gas-Liquid Two-Phase Flows

Abstract

A test loop for testing and calibrating two-phase mass flow measuring instruments has been successfully established. A reference two-phase mass flow rate measuring device, the True Mass Flow Meter for 50 kg/s and 15 MPa (TMFM 50),has been tested. The accuracy of this instrument has been investigated by a mass inventory balance. After a drift correction of the mass flow rate, satisfactory degree of accuracy has been achieved.

A Pitot tube rake has been developed and tested in several blow-downs. Combining the density measurement by a five-beam gammadensitometer and the pressure measurements by a Pitot tube rake, mass flow rates are evaluated. In a range covering nearly the whole active blowdown period, the values of the mass flow rate based on the Pitot tube and TMFM measurements have been found to be in close agreement with each other.
