Abstract
The battered child syndrome was brought to the attention of the scientific world in 1962 in publications by Kempe. It consists of the physical abuse of children by non-accidental use of physical force, or by nonaccidental acts of omission on the part of a parent or other caretaker interacting with a child in his care, aimed at hurting, injuring, or destroying that child (Gil 1970).
