Abstract
Let me begin by warmly welcoming all our guests: the many from Germany as well as those from overseas — most, as might be expected, from the U.S. — whom we are especially pleased to have with us. You are perhaps surprised to find that Japan is not represented here today. This is because the Munich Circle will be holding a separate bilateral conference with the Japanese later this year. Before remarking briefly on the topic of this congress, I would also like to extend a special welcome and word of thanks to those playing an active role in it — the section heads and speakers.
