Part of the book series: Recent Results in Cancer Research ((RECENTCANCER,volume 90))

Abstract

A randomized, controlled, population-based breast cancer screening trial has been underway in two counties of Sweden since 1977 (Kopparberg county) and since 1978 (Östergötland county). The main goal of this study is to answer the question: What is the effect of mammography screening on mortality caused by breast cancer when using the single, mediolateral oblique view as the only screening method? The preliminary results gained in the first 5 years of screening in Kopparberg county are described here.
