Zusammenfassung
Die binären Datensignale in ihrer ursprünglichen Form stellen eine Folge rechteckförmiger Impulse dar. Für ihre formgetreue Übertragung wäre theoretisch der gesamte Frequenzbereich von Null bis Unendlich erforderlich (Abschn. 4.1.1). Da die realen Übertragungswege nur eine endliche Bandbreite zur Verfügung stellen (Abschn. 3), müssen die zu übertragenden Datensignale durch Codierung, Impulsformung und, wenn sich das Frequenzband nur von einer bestimmten unteren bis zu einer oberen Grenzfrequenz erstreckt, zusätzlich durch Modulation einer Trägerschwingung dem Übertragungsweg angepaßt werden.
