Abstract
A major function of blood in most organisms is to supply the tissues with oxygen. The measurement of oxygen partial pressure (\( {p_{{{\rm{O}}_{\rm{2}}}}} \)) and oxygen content (\( {c_{{{\rm{O}}_{\rm{2}}}}} \)) in blood are therefore important criteria through which the state of the gas exchange system of the organism can be assessed.
