Mass and Heat Transport. Growth Shapes and Their Stability

  • Chapter
Modern Crystallography III

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Solid-State Sciences ((SSSOL,volume 36))

Abstract

Mass and heat transport (Sect. 5.1) inevitably occurs in the bulk of both the growing phase and the mother phase. It often plays a substantial role in growth kinetics, and influences the quantity and character of defects arising in crystals during their formation, impurity distribution and phase composition.
