Abstract

Having the choice for a lifelong therapy of chronic disease between on the one side changes of life style by diet therapy and advice of exercise and on the other drug treatment the first alternative is preferable. Chronic drug treatment of lifelong diseases has recently been the subject of medical controversy in the conditions of diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia. The side effects of this treatment have been discussed and the treatment by diet and exercise reemphasized.
