Relevance of Colonic Mucosal Inflammation to Aetiology

  • Chapter
Colorectal Cancer

Part of the book series: Recent Results in Cancer Research ((RECENTCANCER,volume 83))

Abstract

This paper is concerned with two aspects of intestinal inflammation and colorectal cancer. In the first part we review the clinical and epidemiological evidence that patients with chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines have an increased risk of the development of colorectal cancer. In the latter part, experimental aspects of intestinal immunological reactions and their relevance to colorectal malignancy are briefly discussed.
